DESIGNER YES OR… DESIGNER NO?

I didn't really know how to approach this topic but here I go:

NOT EVERY PEOPLE NEEDS A DESIGNER IN THEIR LIFE!! So without further ado I'll get to the point.

1. When NOT to go to a Designer:

1. When you have an idea so clear that a Designer has nothing to say or contribute. I know this point may be a bit controversial because it is one thing to see a wonderful dress in a magazine and quite another to make it happen. It is true that the choice of fabric will have a very important weight but if you know even the number of buttons you want... go to a good seamstress to advise you and save yourself the designer.

2. When you are a week away from your event. Designers do magic but not miracles. And to make a good churro, it is better to go to a good store where the items are already made. Depending on the designer, times change but I would tell you that nowadays they work 3 or 6 months in advance.

3. If you are very indecisive and do not trust even your own shadow (Another controversial point). Because although I would have to tell you to let yourself be carried away by the Designer, it is true that there are people who do not enjoy the process. They want to see the dress finished, finished and in perfect condition from the first fitting and friend, I'm going to tell you a little secret: the first fitting is not for the client to look great, the first fitting is for the designer and the pattern maker to corroborate that everything fits, and that the dress is taking on the desired effect.

4. If you intend to spend 200Euros on a custom garment. Keep in mind that the following participate in the process: The designer, the pattern maker and the seamstress (and this at a minimum). 3 little people working exclusively for you……ah well!! And let's not forget that you have to buy the materials.

2. When DO go to a Designer:

1. When you want to feel special and want your garment to breathe exclusivity.

2. When you like the whole process and you are aware that you will not see the final result until after some tests but you enjoy that “magic”.

3. When you know the work of a designer, you have seen his designs and you feel very identified because you know that whatever he does you are going to like it. So, dear reader, I say yes, go to that Designer who makes you dream and that you enjoy along the way because in these crazy times when you go to your tests, the world will stop and there will be several people focused on their work making you smile...:)

And now I ask the question... Would you go to a Designer? But? Depends?

  2. Well, you actually say great truths.
All you have to do is say that you also do MAGIC two weeks from now. Even if it makes you crazy :-)

  3. Absolutely right! Very good advice. My main controversy with designers is that, sometimes, they create their project regardless of your body and proportions and in the end you end up a little disappointed because the garment is divine but it does not “exalt” you. What do you think? Should the design/stamp or the adaptation of the design to the client take precedence? It is a difficult dance to fit into, which is why sometimes it seems that a seamstress solves more.

    1. Pffff…..You are opening Pandora's box Elsa!!
Personally, I believe that the design, no matter who it is, has to ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS favor the person who is going to wear it.
When people go to a specific designer I think it is because they know their work and believe that their designs can fit well with their body and style. In any case, if on the day of the interview there is no feeling or the designer considers that the client is not going to get what she wants, the most honest thing is to let her know, even if it is not an easy task.
Regarding the seamstress, I would tell you that if you know your body well and what suits you well. You are clear about what you want and you have a minimum knowledge of fabrics (important please!)….GO AHEAD!
      Thanks for write.
